Counselling
When you look after yourself you can be your best self for everybody around you.
Trauma comes in many shapes and sizes. When most people think of trauma they might think of living in a war zone, but small traumas add up inside of us, shape our neural pathways and make it difficult for us to cope with stress on a day-to-day basis. When these little traumas pile up, we can find ourselves stuck in life and unable to reach our true potential.
Whether it’s through a mindfulness practice, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), cognitive behavioural therapy or a combination, you’ll transform your understanding of yourself and work to become unstuck.
Deepika Mittra has been counselling since 2008. Her work stresses self care as an antidote to the pressures of modern life: when you look after yourself you can be your best self for everybody around you. She offers counselling sessions for individuals, couples and family groups on Wednesdays and Thursdays, at $200 per hour.
Psychotherapy Risks and Benefits:
Psychotherapy is not like standard medical visits - your success depends on several factors, including the problems you are experiencing and your goals, as well as who you and I are as individuals. It calls for your active involvement, including working on topics discussed, both during the session and at home.
Psychotherapy involves considerable commitment of your time, energy, and money. If you have questions about my procedures, you can discuss them as they arise. If your doubts persist, I will always be happy to refer you to another mental health professional for a second opinion. Your agreement and comfort with your therapy treatment plan is crucial for you to succeed.
My professional support is to help you develop effective functioning for you and/or your family. If you need formal assessment services related to any legal matters (e.g. separation and divorce), you will need to connect with a professional that specializes in such work.
Psychotherapy has various benefits and risks. Because therapy often involves discussing unpleasant aspects of your life, you may experience uncomfortable feelings such as sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. Psychotherapy has shown to benefit most clients when treatment plans align with key treatment goals. Therapy often leads to better relationships, resolution of specific problems, and significant reduction in feelings of distress.
I cannot be certain what you will experience. However, I can guarantee that I will support and help you in any way I professionally can.
